Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

EIA Screening and EIAR Chapters

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a statutory process required for certain categories of development under the EIA Directive (2014/52/EU) and the Planning and Development Act (as amended). We provide EIA Screening assessments and prepare ecology and biodiversity chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR).

What's the difference between EcIA and EIA? An Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) focuses specifically on ecology and biodiversity. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a broader process covering all environmental topics — noise, air quality, landscape, traffic, water and more. EcIA is often a standalone report; the ecology chapter of an EIAR follows a similar methodology but sits within the wider EIA framework.

EIA Screening

Sub-threshold EIA Screening to determine whether a development is likely to have significant effects on the environment and therefore requires preparation of an EIAR. We prepare screening reports addressing ecology and biodiversity considerations.

EIAR Ecology Chapters

Preparation of the Biodiversity chapter for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports, covering habitats, flora, fauna, protected species and ecological connectivity. We have experience contributing to multi-disciplinary EIA teams on developments of all scales, working alongside noise consultants, traffic engineers, landscape architects and other specialists.

Our Experience

We have contributed to over 30 EIA/EIAR projects, from large residential developments to commercial and public infrastructure schemes. Our ecology chapters follow CIEEM (2024) guidelines and integrate seamlessly with the wider EIAR structure.
